Howl's Moving Castle Music Box
An articulating music box based on Howl's Moving Castle.
Exploded Assembly Drawing
Overview
A few years back, after taking my first CAD class, I made my dad a model airplane that would play "Fly Me to the Moon" by Frank Sinatra as you turned the propellor. It was only fair if I made my mom one down the line. Howl's Moving Castle is her favorite movie, and she asks me to watch it every time I visit.
Design Process
The actual mechanism was surprisingly easy to make, but I made the enclosure way larger than it needed to be. The iteration came when trying to shrink down the box to a more managable size, and when trying to incorporate the music box. The final product, V1, was a success and she loved it! The assembly drawing above shows V2, where I'm working on putting a stepper motor in, for when you still want your robot to dance, but your wrist is tired.
